July

IMG_2789

July has been very hot and sunny one day then wet and cold the next, my sunflowers have loved it. I planted them beside the sweetcorn I am trying out.

My son gave me teasle seeds from the Berlin botanical gardens along with giant grey thistle seeds.

I love the colour of this poppy, it came in a mixed bag of HP seeds so fingers crossed it will survive the winter and I will get more.

Lizzie’s visit

My  dear friend Lizzie came to stay for a few days, I had plans to take her sighseeing all over the place but as soon as Lizzie arrived at the cottage she said I think I would just rather stay here so thats just what we did, the weather was fantastic and we spent the days, sewing, eating and relaxing, it was a super super time.

Lizzie is an great artist so she spent time sketching the flowers and cottage. On the chair are some of the wall hannings we worked on. Lizzie is a wonderful story teller of traditional Scottich tales. http://www.tracscotland.org/tracs/storytelling/directory-of-storytellers/…/lizzie-mcdougall.

I did take her to Ronde to see an open air theatre I thought she would be interested in, she works a lot with the Highland Shakespeare Company  https://www.facebook.com/thehsc.eu/.

We also went to see some barrows, burial mounds and a long barrow.

I had such a lovely time with Lizzie I was really sad to see her leave, I hope she comes again soon.

Christmas in June!

I was invited to go to a Christmas party in June! Its just something Danes do, have a super  Christmas party for all their friends in June, Christmas is very much a family affair and the weather is usually pretty bad around Christmas time so they leave off haveing a big party until the summer, makes a lot of scense to me. It was great fun and was held in a lovely old barn.

Poppet

Poppet has grown into a beautiful cat, she was found abandoned in the village, starving and covered in ticks and fleas 2 years ago. Just look at her now!

IMG_1809

She is the sweetest cat.

IMG_1816

A great mouser.

IMG_1814

Comes in every night.

IMG_2305

Is a daft as a brush, still a kitten at heart.

IMG_2304

And makes me laugh every day!

Bobs

When I try to get photos of finished quilts its usually the wind that hinders me.

IMG_1850

This time Bobs took over.

IMG_2345

Cant fault them, they were amazing, super fast, super efficiant, super helpful and everything single item arrived in perfect condition!

Unloading.

Then they were off to København.

Thatch!

This winter was long and harsh, the very strong winds blew the top of my thatched roof, it was a sorry state and leaked and the rain poured in around the chimeny stacks. IMG_2521

I tried to call the thatcher chap but after a couple of failed attemts asked my good friend Maria to call him for me as my Danish is poor.

IMG_2520

A few days later he arrived with a truck load of thtach and wood. We got by using broken Danish, German and English.

IMG_2530.JPG

It only took him a day and a half to finish the job!

I cant belive its done, I have been so worried when it rains and the water poured down the walls.

IMG_2535

Wow, the roof has never looked this good.

Tulips

IMG_2147

The tulips were amazing this year.

IMG_1959

I had to move them in the fall and was not sure how they would do.

IMG_1960

I am lucky that the soil is light, sandy and well drained.

IMG_1940

and the tulips seem to love it.

I loved these sculptures made from plastic cutlery.
